What is a BAS Agent?

In 2009, new legislation was introduced requiring a person or company that charges a fee for services relating to GST or BAS preparation, to be a registered BAS agent. This ensures a high standard of service, where a registered BAS agent must;

  1. Have a minimum level of education (Certificate IV in Bookkeeping or higher).
  2. Complete a minimum number of hours of Continuing Professional Education.
  3. Hold Professional Indemnity Insurance to a minimum level of cover.
  4. Adhere to a strict Code of Professional Conduct.
  5. Satisfy a fit and proper person requirement.
